Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 July 2026
Introduction
CardFrame ("we", "our" or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the CardFrame mobile application collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the CardFrame app on iOS and Android and to this website.
The short version: CardFrame does not ask you to create an account, does not ask for your name, e-mail address or phone number, and does not sell your data to anyone. Your card collection lives on your device.
Information We Collect
Personal information
None. CardFrame does not require registration and we do not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, e-mail address, phone number or address. You can use every feature of the app without telling us who you are.
Camera and card images
CardFrame needs access to your camera in order to scan cards. The camera is only active while you are on the scanning screen. Card images are used for one purpose — recognising which card you are pointing at — and are not used to build a profile of you, are not used for advertising, and are not sold or shared with third parties.
You can revoke camera access at any time in your device settings. If you do, the rest of the app (your collections, search and prices) continues to work; only scanning stops.
Your collection
The cards you keep, the collections you create, your portfolio value and your scan history are stored on your device. We do not require you to upload your collection to us and we do not publish it.
Market price data
CardFrame shows live market prices, so the app requests price information over the internet. Those requests identify the card — for example its game, set and card number — not you. We do not attach your identity to them, because we do not have it.
Local storage
The app stores the following on your device:
- Your card collections and the cards inside them
- Scan history and the editions you confirmed
- Portfolio value history used to draw the value chart
- App settings and preferences (selected game, sort order, scan mode)
How We Use Information
Information is used only to make the app work:
- To identify the cards you scan
- To show current market prices and price history for those cards
- To maintain your collections and calculate what they are worth
- To let you search, sort and browse the card database
- To remember your preferences between sessions
- To diagnose crashes and fix bugs, using aggregate, non-identifying diagnostics
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We do not share it with advertisers and CardFrame contains no advertising trackers.
We may disclose information if we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to protect our rights, property or safety, or those of our users.
Third-Party Services
CardFrame relies on a small number of external services:
- Card price data providers — to supply the market prices shown in the app. They receive card identifiers, not your identity.
- The Apple App Store and Google Play — if you buy a subscription or make an in-app purchase, the transaction is processed entirely by the store. We never see or store your payment card details.
Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information the app handles, and we keep the amount of information we hold to the minimum the app needs to work. No method of transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
Your collections, scan history and preferences remain on your device until you delete them in the app, reset the app, or uninstall it. Uninstalling CardFrame removes the data the app stored on your device.
Children's Privacy
CardFrame is suitable for a general audience and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the app does not collect personal information from anyone, this should not arise — but if you are a parent or guardian and you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Card Recognition
Card recognition matches what your camera sees against a database of trading cards. Recognition is not perfect: lighting, glare, sleeves, wear and lookalike reprints can all affect it, and a card can exist in several editions at very different prices. CardFrame shows you the editions it found and asks you to confirm the one you actually own. Always check the result before relying on a value.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the data held about you — in CardFrame's case, it is on your device, in the app
- Delete your data — by deleting collections in the app or uninstalling it
- Object to processing, or ask us what we hold
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Because we do not collect personal information and cannot identify you, we may be unable to link any data to you — which is, in itself, the strongest privacy protection we can offer.
App Store Compliance
CardFrame is built to comply with Apple App Store and Google Play requirements:
- No account required and no personal information collected
- No advertising identifiers and no ad tracking
- Camera permission requested only for scanning, and explained in context
- No sale of user data
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
